Final Fantasy VII

Recently Sony and Square Enix has announced that five Final Fantasy games will be added to PlayStation Now starting with Final Fantasy VII on 7 September 2021. In the next four months one Final Fantasy game will be added.

The version of Final Fantasy VII that will be added is the PlayStation 4 version, which is a port of the 'enhanced' PC version released back in 2012 bringing additional boosters. You can speed up the game, max the character statistics and disable random battles.

In the upcoming months one game will be added every month.

  • 5 October 2021: Final Fantasy VIII Remastered
  • 2 November 2021: Final Fantasy IX
  • 7 December 2021: Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster
  • 4 January 2022: Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age

PlayStation Now is a cloud gaming subscription service that allow players to stream PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 games on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC.

Square Enix

Square Enix has announced that they will release Bravely Default II on Steam on 2 September 2021. The game was previously exclusive to the Nintendo Switch and was released on 26 February 2021. So far the game has sold more than 950,000 units (shipped and downloads).

Bravely Default II follows the adventures of four unlikely heroes, Seth, Gloria, Elvis, and Adelle, as they set out across the land of Excillant in search of four elemental crystals.

The Steam version will feature English and Japanese audio, and English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese text. Fans can save 10% by purchasing it on Steam till 13 September 2021.

Square Enix

Square Enix has announced that the pixel remaster version of Final Fantasy IV will be released on 8 September 2021 on Steam, Android and iOS devices.

This version will feature the following improvements compared to the original version:

  • Universally updated 2D pixel graphics redrawn for modern hardware, featuring iconic Final Fantasy character pixel designs created by the original artist and current collaborator, Kazuko Shibuya
  • Beautifully rearranged soundtracks, overseen by the original composer, Nobuo Uematsu
  • Improved gameplay, including updated controller controls, modernized UI, auto-battle options and more
  • Quality-of-life improvements including supplemental extras like the bestiary, illustration gallery, music player and the ability to save at any time

Steam users can now pre-order the game with 20% off and during that time you'll receive three specially rearranged music tracks and two limited wallpapers. You can also get the bundle which contains all 6 games with the bonus items. Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI will be added when they're available.

Final Fantasy III

The first three games in the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series (Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy II and Final Fantasy III) are now available on PC via Steam and mobile devices. The other 3 classic titles, Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI, will follow at a later date this year.

These versions contains the following upgrades:

If you purchase Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy II or Final Fantasy III by 11 August 2021 you'll receive a small music bonus, a couple of wallpapers and a 20% discount per title. You can also purchase a bundle which features all 6 games at a higher discount on Steam.

With this release the old versions of Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI have been de-listed from Steam. On mobile platform Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI have been de-listed. Players who purchased the games can still download and play them. However the versions will not be updated anymore.

Final Fantasy VII Remake

The PlayStation 5 version of last year hit title Final Fantasy VII Remake titled Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is now available.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is an enchanced version of Final Fantasy VII Remake with the following features:

  • Access to FF7R Episode INTERmission, a PlayStation 5 console exclusive adventure that brings a new perspective to the acclaimed Final Fantasy VII Remake storyline
  • Immerse yourself in the city of Midgar like never before, with improved textures, lighting, and background environments. Players can switch between two game modes:

Yuffie in Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade

Players who have purchased Final Fantasy VII Remake on PlayStation 4 can download the upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version for free. However you need the PlayStation 5 base edition (with the disc drive). The update does not include FF7R Episode INTERmission which can be purchased separately via the PlayStation Store.

Recently Square Enix released a patch for the PlayStation 4 version where players can transfer their save file to the PlayStation 5 version.

During the Dragon Quest 35th anniversary livestream Square Enix has announced the next mainline entry in the Dragon Quest series: Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate. The game will use the Unreal Engine 5 and is in early stage of development and will have a global simultaneous release.

According to Yuji Horii, game designer of Dragon Quest, the player needs to make several decisions to determine the way of life. Also changes will be made to the command battle.

Also three other Dragon Quest titles have been announced during the livestream.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake

A remake of Dragon Quest III, which was first released in 1988 on the Famicom, in the style of Octopath Traveler.

Dragon Quest Treasures

A completely new spinoff from the Dragon Quest series, Dragon Quest Treasures explores the childhood of the siblings Mia and Erik from Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. As Mia and Erik, players will embark on an RPG treasure hunting adventure in another world before the events of Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age.

Dragon Quest Keshi Keshi (Final Name TBC)

Developed with NHN PlayArt, this title is a free-to-play mobile puzzle game for iOS and Android devices that will feature popular Dragon Quest series characters, monsters and items as erasers which are used to erase graffiti in the game.

Final Fantasy XIV

During the Letter from the Producer Live Part LXIV it has been announced that the PlayStation 5 version of Final Fantasy XIV will start official service on the same day as patch 5.55; 25 May 2021.

The PlayStation 5 version features fast load times, 4K resolution support, high resolution UI, DualSense haptic feedback support, new thropies and 3D audio support. Currently this version is in open beta.

Patch 5.55 will feature part 2 of the Death Unto Dawn main scenario, Save the Queen updates, YoRHa: Dark Apocolypse epilogue quests and a reward for collecting all Triple Triad cards.

Between the release of patch 5.55 and the release of Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker several updates and events have been planned.

Final Fantasy XIV

During the opening keynote of the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2021 Naoki Yoshida, producer and director, has announced that the fourth expansion, Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker, will be released on 23 November 2021 and is now available for pre-order. He also revealed new information about the content featured in the expansion. Due to the COVID-19 pandanmic, the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2021 is digital only and can be viewed by stream.

The following new content and features for Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker were announced during the opening keynote:

  • New Job: Reaper
  • New Playable Race: Male Viera
  • New City: Old Sharlayan
  • Travel to Expansive New Areas: Labyrinthos and Mare Lamentorum
  • New Tribes to Encounter: Loporrits

Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker Collections Edition

Square Enix has also revealed information about the Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker Collections Edition which will be available for pre-order in the Square Enix Store. This edition will feature the digital download version of the game with the following items:

  • Endwalker Special Art Box – A unique glossy white-inlaid box that features an illustration of Hydaelyn and Zodiark by artist Yoshitaka Amano.
  • Expertly Crafted Paladin Figure – An impressive high-quality figure that showcases the Warrior of Light as a paladin using Passage of Arms to shield allies from harm. Including the base, the figure’s dimensions are approximately W 6.10" x D 8.46" x H 7.28" (W 15.5cm x D 21.5cm x H 18.5cm).

Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker will be available on 23 November 2021 for PC, Mac, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Players who pre-order the expansion can start playing the game on 19 November 2021 at 09:00 GMT. During the first official livestream Square Enix has announced that the battle royale mobile game Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier will have a closed beta test in Japan and North America this June.

In Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier, players will embark on an intense battle royale experience where they must fight to be the last SOLDIER standing. To do so, players will use magic and special abilities along with ranged and melee weapons to triumph on the battlefield. Players can choose between various styles, such as Warrior, Sorcerer or Monk, each of whom boast unique special abilities. In addition to other SOLDIER candidates, players must also contend with ferocious monsters who inhabit the outskirts of the city. By defeating them, players can gain experience needed to level up and unlock new weapons. Classic Final Fantasy elements abound in the game, such as rideable chocobos, powerful espers, including Ifrit, to summon and materia, which enables players to cast devastating spells. Players can customize their characters’ outfits and accessories, obtain various weapon and vehicle skins, emotes and more to create their own unique SOLDIER.

 

Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier will be released in 2021 for free with in-app purchases for Android and iOS devices.

Final Fantasy VII Remake

Square Enix has released an extended trailer of the enhanced features in Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, the PlayStation 5 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake.

In this trailer you can take a look at the features that will be present in Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, like improved graphics, a photo-mode and faster load times. Also in a brand-new episode featuring you play as ninja Yuffie Kisaragi as she infiltrates the shadowy Shinra Corporation to steal a powerful materia and restore glory to her homeland.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will be released on 10 June 2021 on PlayStation 5.
