Square Enix should publish Final Fantasy for Xbox 360

Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of Final Fantasy and now producer at Mistwalker, said in an interview with GameSpot that Square Enix should publish the Final Fantasy games on the Xbox 360.

Hironobu Sakaguchi: "I feel that the Final Fantasy series should come to Xbox 360 as well. This is wise. It makes so much sense to me...it has so much potential in North America and in Europe. So there's a great chance for the series to succeed on 360 as well. And I heard they made the White Engine open platform as well."

Square Enix has released some worldwide stats of games that have been sold between April 1st and December 31st, 2006.

- Final Fantasy XII (PS2)
USA: 1.66 million copies

- Kingdom Hearts II (PS2)
Europe: 690,000 copies

- Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria (PS2)
Japan: 420,000 copies
USA: 160,000 copies

- Dirge of Cerberus - Final Fantasy VII (PS2)
USA: 450,000 copies
Europe: 250,000 copies

- Dragon Quest: The Journey of the Cursed King (PS2)
Europa: 450,000 copies

- Final Fantasy III (NDS)
Japan: 950,000 copies
USA: 340.000 copies

Currently Final Fantasy XI has around 500,000 accounts.

5 Square Enix titles this year in Japan

In an interview with the Japanese magazine Famitsu Tetsuya Nomura from Square Enix has said that this year 5 titles will be released in Japan for sure that he will be the director from. This is the list:
- Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix + (PS2)
- Subarashiki Kono Sekai: It's Wonderful World (NDS)
- Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (PSP)
- Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete (Blu-ray Disc/Movie)
- A not yet announced title

The big game that is not on this list is Final Fantasy XIII which will probably not be released this year in Japan.

Final Fantasy: number 3 best selling videogame franchise ever

Final Fantasy reports on the third spot as best selling videogame franchise ever with 68 million reported sales beating other popular franchises like The Sims and Grand Theft Auto.

The number 2 and 1 are (with insane distance) Pokemon and Mario with 155 and 193 million respectively.

The full top 20 list, with sales figures, is as follows:

Rumor: Square Enix selling 2 series?! (Updated)

According to the German website Wunderlampe Square Enix is going to sell 2 of their series. This is because of the high development costs the company has. Buena Vista Games is one of the companies that can take over the Kingdom Hearts series and Mistwalker the Chrono series rights. Let's just hope this is a rumor.

Wunderlampe doesn't state anything which franchises will be sold nor who the buyers are, just offered some possibilities
However! GameFront say that it could be the Mana and Kingdom Hearts franchise, which will go to Disney, because they started their own developement studio named Fall Line in November 06. Now for the wildest thing (imo) in this speculation: Fall Line was created to produce for Wii, DS and GBA.

Jump Festa Report

The main highlight for this years Jump Festa was definitely the Square Enix booth, where a huge chunk of their upcoming lineup was on display, including Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix as well as a trio of games never before shown in playable form -- Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII for PSP, and Seiken Densetsu: Heroes of Mana and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates for Nintendo DS. Unfortunately Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings wasn't playable, nor was the recently announced update/port of Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War for PSP (though they did show a nice video).

SE also had a private movie theater showing footage from many of their 2007 games, including Final Fantasy Versus XIII for PS3 and Final Fantasy Agito XIII for cell phones. Interestingly enough, at the end of the reel they showed a very brief (like one second brief) clip of the face of an armored man grimacing at the camera on what looked like some sort of battlefield. It was followed by the text "And something new coming in 2007." What it was is anyone's guess; Time will tell.

They also showed a new trailer for Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors for Wii, which will be the first Dragon Quest game ever in Japan to feature voice acting (the US version of Dragon Quest VIII was fully voiced, but the Japanese one was text only).

Two Final Fantasy Tactics games announced

According to reports out of Japan, the new Jump magazine will contain information about two new Final Fantasy Tactics games.

The PSP will get Final Fantasy Tactics: Shishi Sensou which is an updated version of Final Fantasy Tactics on the PSone. The game will feature new jobs and some slick cell shaded movies. Also Final Fantasy Tactics A2 Fuuketsu no Guurimore will be developed. Nothing is known about this game yet, even its platform.

Both games will fall, together with Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, under the project called "Ivalice Alliance".

More information will hopefully be released at the Jump Festa that will start this Saterday.

Square Enix has announced their lineup for this years Jump Festa, that will be held on December 16th and December 17th.

29/11 UPDATE: Games are listed into playable and video presentation. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII will be playable for the first time.
