Final Fantasy XVI on PC is not coming soon

On the Japanese PlayStation Blog producer Naoki Yoshida has stated that the PC version of Final Fantasy XVI won't be ready six months after the release of the PlayStation 5 version. At this time he can not reveal a release date.

I've caused a bit of a stir with my remarks the other day, but I'd like to touch on the PC version. First of all, it is true that Final Fantasy XVI is a six-month limited time exclusive on the PS5 platform. However, it is a completely different story that the PC version will be released in half a year. I will make it clear, but the PC version will not come out in half a year.

This is because we spent a lot of time and money optimizing the PS5 platform to deliver the best gaming experience. Of course, I would like to release a PC version at some point so that everyone can play as many games as possible. However, even if we start optimizing the PC version after the PS5 version comes out, we won't be able to optimize it in half a year, so it won't come out in a short span of half a year. I would like to release it eventually, and I think I will, but I am not at the stage where I can say when.

First of all, I would be happy if you could play the PS5 version, which I made with the thought of being the best game in the world. If the PC version comes out in half a year, I can quit the company (laughs). Please don't say, "I won't buy the PS5 version because the PC version will be released in half a year."

Final Fantasy XVI will be released on PlayStation 5 on 22 June 2023.

Forspoken now available

Forspoken, the debut title from studio Luminous Productions, is now available on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. Epic Games Store and the Microsoft Store.

We’re so excited to celebrate the launch of Forspoken, and to have players finally experience Frey’s story. The development team and everyone involved have worked so hard to bring the vision of Forspoken to life and we cannot wait to see fans reaction. We hope that players relate to Frey as they dive into the mysterious land of Athia and go on this magical journey with her.

Forspoken puts players in the shoes of Frey Holland, an ordinary young woman who has been mysteriously transported to Athia, a fantastical land that is devastated by an unknown force known as the Break. Having somehow survived this strange phenomenon and armed with a magical sentient bracelet called ‘Cuff’, Frey now offers Athia a last beacon of hope and must harness her newfound magical abilities to save Athia and find her way home.

The game was announced back in June 2020 as Project Athia. Originally the game was supposed to be released on 24 May 2022, but it was delayed to 11 October 2022 and now to 24 January 2023.

Tactics Ogre: Reborn now available

Tactics Ogre: Reborn, the remasted version of the PlayStation Portable game Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together, is now available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.

Tactics Ogre: Reborn is set in The Valerian Isles, jewels of the Obero Sea. Following many years of conflict, there finally rose a man to put an end to this: Dorgalua Oberyth. Known as the "Dynast-King,” he brought peace and prosperity to Valeria for half a century. After his death, a civil war erupts and throws the isles of Valeria into a bloody struggle for power between three warring factions. In Tactics Ogre: Reborn, players follow the story of a young man, Denam Pavel, caught in the center of the bloodshed. Although he seeks a path of freedom and justice, players will soon discover that even the noblest of goals requires impossibly difficult decisions to be made.

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together was released in 1995 on the Super Famicom in Japan only. Later it was ported to the Sega Saturn and PlayStation. In 2010 it got a remake on the PlayStation Portable.

New updates and features include:

  • Beautifully remastered graphics that enhance yet maintain the original distinctive visual style
  • Fully voiced cutscenes in English & Japanese
  • Full orchestral re-recording of the game’s soundtrack
  • Assorted quality of life updates, such as:
    • Redesigned battle system
    • Adjusted level management system
    • Reworked AI
    • Simplified and improved UI

Triangle Strategy coming to PC this October

Square Enix has announced that Triangle Strategy, a turn-based strategy RPG that was released in March on Nintendo Switch, will be released on PC via Steam on 13 October 2022.

Triangle Strategy is a HD-2D tactical role playing game, from the team of developers who brought the Bravely series and Octopath Traveler, where three nations battle for control of the dwindling resources of salt and iron.

Pre-orders for the game are now open on Steam. You can choose between the base game, a deluxe editon which comes with a digital mini-artbook and a bundle that comes with the game Various Daylife, which was recently released (also on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch).

Octopath Traveler II announced

During the latest Nintendo Direct Square Enix has announced Octopath Traveler II, the next entry in the Octopath Traveler series. The game will be released on 24 February 2023 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam.

The first Octopath Traveler was released in 2018 on the Nintendo Switch. This RPG features a turn-based battle system and HD-2D visuals, a striking blend of retro 2D characters in a beautiful 3D world. The player starts the game by choosing one of the eight adventurers as the protagonist. Later the game was released on PC, Stadia and Xbox One and sold over 3 million copies.

Just like the first game, the trailer features eight new travelers: Hikari (Warrior), Agnea (Dancer), Partitio (Merchant), Osvald (Scholar), Throné (Thief), Temenos (Cleric), Ochette (Hunter), and Castti (Apothecary). A new gameplay feature is the day and night cycle, which will change the townscapes and Path Actions available to each character.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade now available on Steam

During the Final Fantasy VII 25th Anniversary Celebration that was streamed last night Square Enix has revealed that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will be available on Steam on 17 July 2022, which is today, making it no longer exclusive on Epic Games Store for PC gamers. The game is fully compatible with the Steam Deck.

During Sony's latest State of Play Square Enix has revealed a brand-new strategy RPG titled The DioField Chronicle. The game is developed by Platinum Games and will be released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC/Steam in 2022.

Forspoken delayed to 11 October 2022

Luminous Productions, the developers of Forspoken, and Square Enix have announced that the game has been delayed the open-world action RPG which was previously planned to be released on 24 May 2022. The new release date will be 11 October 2022.

We have made the decision to move the release date of Forspoken to October 11, 2022. Our vision for this exciting new IP is to deliver a game world and hero that gamers across the globe will want to experience for years to come, so getting it right is extremely important to use. To that end, during the next few months we will focus all of our efforts on polishing the game and can’t wait for you to experience Frey’s journey this fall.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade coming to PC

During The Game Awards 2021 Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will be released on PC through the Epic Games Store on 16 December 2021 making it no longer an exclusive for the PlayStation 4 and 5.

With improved textures, lighting, background environments, a fully customizable “Photo Mode,” and more, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade for PC also features 4K support, HDR support, XInput and DirectInput compliant controller support, keyboard and mouse support, plus the highest spec PCs could see a performance of up to 120 frames per second.

Compensation Final Fantasy XIV players for congestion situation

Square Enix has apologized to the community of Final Fantasy XIV for the current congestion situation due to the start of early access for the Endwalker expansion on 3 December and will compensate everyone with free game time.

On The Lodestone, Naoki Yoshida, producer and director of Final Fantasy XIV, said the following:

Currently, all Worlds across all regions have been hitting the login cap for extremely long periods of time, and the progression of login queues is being slowed dramatically. Across the FFXIV service as a whole, the number of simultaneous logins has reached the hardware limit, and as a result, logging in has required an extremely long time, especially during “peak hours” when we tend to see increased player activity. For this, I am truly sorry.

All players who own the full version of the game and have an active subscription will be granted 7 days of free game time during the official release of Endwalker on 7 December. This also includes players who are currently playing on the 30-day free play period included when registering the full version of the game and those with multiple accounts.

Additional free game time will be announced at a later date if the congestion situation still persists.

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker will be released on 7 December (today) after being delayed for two weeks and is the fourth expansion (after Heavensward, Stormblood and Shadowbringers).
