Final Fantasy VII

On 7 September 1997, Final Fantasy VII was released in the United States. In order to celebrate the 22nd anniversary of the release, Square Enix has released a new piece of artwork.

This time they've remake one of the most iconic pieces of artwork from the original game. It shows Cloud in front of the Shinra building in Midgar. The picture to the right is the original artwork so you can compare them.

On Friday Square Enix has announced on Twitter that they have released patch 1.01 for the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One version of Final Fantasy VII which fixes a very old audio bug.

The audio bug caused the background music to restart after each battle. This bug was introduced in the iOS version that was developed by D4 Enterprise and released on 19 August 2015. The PlayStation 4 version, that was developed by DotEmu and released on 5 December 2015, also contained this bug. Both versions have never been patched, which makes this decision strange. Square Enix should patch these versions too to reduce the differences between versions.

All ports of Final Fantasy IX also containes the same bug.

Another bug that was patched is the black screen before and after a FMV cutscene.

Final Fantasy VII can be played on PlayStation, PC, iOS devices, Android devices, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One.

In FINAL FANTASY VII, the world has fallen under the dominion of the Shinra Electric Power Company, a sinister corporation that has monopolized the planet's life force as Mako energy. Players will follow the story of the powerful ex-SOLDIER turned mercenary, Cloud, in an attempt to save the world from destruction, alongside the anti-Shinra resistance group Avalanche. Using innovative character customization options to create fun and interesting combinations of their favorite party members, players can fight to save the planet and discover the truth about Cloud’s mysterious past.

FINAL FANTASY VII on Nintendo Switch and Xbox One includes the following enhancements:

  • 3x speed mode
  • An enemy encounter option that allows players to enjoy the storyline uninterrupted. While enemy encounters are turned off, players can still enjoy the story event battles.
  • A Max Stats command that enables players to become all-powerful in the blink of an eye.

Merchoid, a video game merchandise webshop, has announced that Final Fantasy VII will get a Monopoly version. It will be released on 14 April 2017, 20 years after the release of the original game on PlayStation.

Jessica Adams, community manager at Merchoid, said the following:

It's every family's favourite board game in a Final Fantasy 7 theme, so it will feature Cloud, Aeris, Sephiroth and all your favourite characters and locations. Whether your plans are to buy housing for the people or build a Mako reactor plant, you'll soon discover the real nature of Sephiroth's evil is the extortionate amount of rent he charges.

You can preorder the board game at Merchoid for $49.99 /  €51.99 / £34.99. However, the link now returns a 404 - Not Found. Is it a fake?

After years of rumours that were hyping up during E3 this year they are true. During Sony's E3 2015 press conference the remake of Final Fantasy VII has been announced with a trailer. The remake will first be released on PlayStation 4. It's unknown if it will be released on other platforms.

During the PlayStation Experience keynote Shinji Hashimoto, producer at Square Enix, announced that the 2012 pc port of Final Fantasy VII will be released on PlayStation 4 this Spring. Well, this was kind of a disappointment ... We already can buy the game on PSN (PS3, PSP, PS Vita), SE Store and Steam. Kotaku has called this 'proberly the worst troll in recent video game history'.

Final Fantasy VII

Square Enix has announced a new game for iOS and Android devices called Final Fantasy VII G-Bike. This game takes the mini game from Final Fantasy VII completely re-imagined with customize options, leveling and item collecting. In the original game from 1997 you have to play this mini game during the story line and you can play it later in the Gold Saucer.

Final Fantasy VII G-Bike will be available for free with in-app purchases, however no release date has been given.

Final Fantasy VII

Today Square Enix has officially released the PC version of Final Fantasy VII on Steam included with the same features as the 'enhanced' version that was released in the Square Enix Store in August 2012.

Features in the 'enhanced' PC version of Final Fantasy VII are 36 achievements (from winning your first battle to beating Ruby Weapon), cloud saving and a character booster. The game can be bought for €12.99 / £9.99 / $11.99 from the Steam page. Quite expansive still for an almost 16 years old game.

However, fans that have purchased the 'enhanced' PC version of the game in the Square Enix Store are now complaining that they want a Steam key and don't want to purchase the game again. I kind of agree with that. Square Enix, stop being a money grabber and listen to your fans!

Final Fantasy VII

Just before the start of the gamescom Square Enix has launched the downloadable PC version of Final Fantasy VII in their store.

This 'enhanced' version of the original PC version, that was released back in 1998, features 36 achievements, cloud saving, character booster and is optimized to run on current PC's.

The downloadable version normally will cost € 12,99 / $ 11,99, but now has a special launch price of € 9,99 / $ 9,99 till 12 September. European fans can get the game here and United States fans here.
