An overdrive is just like a limit break in Final Fantasy VII; your guage fills up and when its full you are ready to perform a special attack. But unlike VII, you can save your Overdrive and still attack regularly.

¤ Using an overdrive

Before using most overdrives, you will need to complete a small task before it is performed to determine how much damage it will deal. Here is a list of what you will need to do for the character.

• Tidus: You will see a moving bar, moving from left to right constantly. There will be an open space in the middle, in which you will need to press "X" once the bar is in that space. If done correctly the first time, it will deal the maximum amount of damage it can.
• Wakka: You have slots, and each item inside is a circle with a certain color. The color represents the element. Remember, white is ice and blue is water. In order to have a maximum effect, you will need to line up all three of one element, which will deal lethal damage to each enemy.
• Lulu: Fury, truely a great skill when in need of a series of black magic attacks when you don't want to waste MP. As soon as she gets ready to perform the attack, you will see a blue box come up and the number "00" will appear. Here, you must move your right analog stick in a circular rotation, going forward to charge up her Overdrive.
• Auron: Each one of Auron's Overdrives deal mass damage, only if you get the button combinations correctly. There is a different combination for each one of his Overdrives, though, so you are on your own for this one. Just don't panic if the time gets low.

• Spiral Cut: Tidus will jump at his enemy and slice them with his sword.

• Energy Rain: Tidus leaps into the air and gathers energy into his sword, then unleashes it into his enemies.

• Blitz Ace: Tidus lays in repeated shots to his enemies, one after another. Then, Yuna throws a blitzball into the air and Tidus jumps up and kicks it at his enemies, dealing leathal damage.
  Obtained by: Performing his overdrive 80 times.

• Grand Summon: Yuna summons an Aeon with a full overdrive guage.
  Obtained by: N/A (already known)

• Dragon Fang: Auron leaps into the air, and comes crashing down to deal lethal damage to all of his enemies.

• Shooting Star: Auron attacks his enemy for max damage, and knocks them away.
  Obtained by: Finding one Jecht Sphere.
  
  
• Banishing Blade: Auron deals max damage, and can knock an enemy out of the battle. This also uses Power, Magic, Mental, and Armor Break.
  Obtained by: Finding three Jecht Spheres.
  
  
• Tornado: Auron wipes out all enemies.
  Obtained by: Finding all ten Jecht Spheres.

• Fury: Lulu casts a black magic spell repeatedly.

• Jump: Kimahri jumps into the air and leaps down, stabbing his spear into his enemy.

• Fire Breath: Kimahri spits fire to all of his enemies.
