Star Ocean: The Last Hope is the fourth game in the Star Ocean series. The Star Ocean series is a science fiction Role Playing Game series developed by tri-Ace and originally published by Enix (which now is Square Enix).
Star Ocean: The Last Hope was first announced as Star Ocean 4 at 10 May 2007 during the Square Enix Party. Nothing was released about for which console it will be released and when. A couple of trailers showing mostly FMV movies and some magazine scans were released, but things were really quiet about the game for a while.
Then at a Microsoft RPG event in Japan at the 10 June 2008 the game was announced to be released for the Xbox 360 in 2009 as Star Ocean: The Last Hope. Square Enix don't have any plans to release the game for the PlayStation 3.
At the Tokyo Game Show Square Enix has announced that the game will be released on 19 February 2009 in Japan and 24th February 2009 in North America. In March 2009 they announced that they will release the game in Europe in June 2009. The gap is because the game have to be translated into other languages too.
In September 2009 Square Enix announced that a PlayStation 3 version is coming called Star Ocean: The Last Hope International.
Star Ocean: The Last Hope is a prequel to the first Star Ocean game. It takes place just after World War III. The earth lies in ruins and the remaining contries join forces to setup a space program. Its mission is to search for a new home.
