To earn a new limit break of the same level, you have to use the previous one 8 times. To get the first limit break of a new level, fight 40 times and win. As for Vincent and Cait Sith, whose limit breaks have only one limit break per level, only need to get in the kills, and don't have to use their limit breaks. Note that the higher the level the limit break, the slower the limit gauge will fill.

Braver - Attack on one enemy.
Cross-Slash - Damage on one enemy, chance of paralyzing.
Level 2
Blade Beam - Damage on an enemy, beam splits and hits other enemies, damage on secondary enemies are less than the primary target.
Climbhazzard - Heavy damage on one enemy, works best with the Organics sword.
Level 3
Meteorain - Damage that hits all enemies, 4 hits.
Finishing Touch - Hits all targets and chance of sweeping enemies clear off the battlefield.
Level 4
Omnislash - A series of 15 hits, the last hit often blows enemies off the battlefield.

Level 1
Healing Wind - Restores HP to all party members.
Seal Evil - Casts stop and silence on all enemies.
Level 2
Breath of the Earth - Cures all status ailments to all party members.
Fury Brand - Makes other party members' limit gauge full.
Level 3
Planet Protector - Makes party invincible for a limited amount of time.
Pulse of Life - Heals all status ailments and HP and MP.
Level 4
Great Gospel - A combination of the Planet Protector and Pulse of Life limit breaks; heals all HP and MP and status ailments and makes party invincible for a limited amount of time
¤ Tifa
Tifa's limit breaks are all slots, and all the limit breaks are used. If the slot ends up in 'hit,' she does normal damage, if it is 'yeah' she does critical damage, if it is 'miss' she misses. Targets are always random, but never hit party members.

All Creation - Hits all enemies once, causes heavy damage.
¤ Cait Sith
Level 1
Dice - damage determined by numbers on a dice. If a double is rolled, the damage is multiplied by 2.
Level 2
Slots - Three slots used to determine the type of damage.
- 3 Bars - Summons a random creature;
- 3 Crowns - Toy Soldier;
- 3 Stars - Restores HP and MP;
- 3 Hearts - Makes party members do critical damage;
- 3 Moogles - All party members combine into a huge Cait Sith, HP and MP is combined from party members;
- 3 Faces - Kills all enemies, including bosses;
- 2 Faces, 1 Bar - Kills all party members;
- Anything not mentioned - Toy Box.
¤ Vincent
Vincent transforms into various beasts, and will not transform back until the end of the battle. Also, if he transforms, you cannot control his movements.
Level 1 Galian Beast
Beast Flare - Fire damage on all enemies.
Beserk Dance - Punch combos on an enemy.
Level 2 Death Gigas
Gigadunk - hits one enemy.
Livewire - Attacks all enemies for fire damage.
Level 3 Hellmasker
Nightmare - Casts poison, frog, sleep, silence, and mini on an enemy.
Splatter Combo - Multiple hits on an enemy with a chainsaw.
Level 4 Chaos
Chaos Saber - Hits all enemies.
Satan Slam - unblockable damage, hits twice (first hit may miss).
The Limit Break Manuals
To get the Level 4 limit break, you need to find a manual somewhere in the game. To use it, the character that is going to use it must have all their level 3 limit breaks.
- Cloud: Go to the Battle Square in the Gold Saucer and earn at least 32,000 BP, then buy the Omnislash manual.
- Aeris: Go to the cave surrounded by the river. You can get there early in the game by using the buggy. The Shinra Cargo ship will transport you across the sea, so drive the buggy into Costa del Sol to enter the Cargo ship with the buggy. When you get out of Junon, you will be in the buggy. Talk to the man in the cave and he will tell you how many times you fought or escaped. Make the last 2 digits of the number of the times you fought the same, then go back and talk to him, he'll wake up and give you a Mythril. Go to the weapon store below the Gold Saucer, and talk to the weapon crafter. Choose to open the small box, and you will get the Great Gospel manual.
- Tifa: Go to her house and play the Highwind theme on the piano. Make sure Tifa is in your party. The tune goes: X, Square, Triangle, L1+Triangle, L1+Square, X, Square, Triangle, L1+X, O, X, Square, X.
- Barret: Stop the train at Corel on the second disc and talk to one of the women in the tents, and she'll give you the Catastrophe manual.
- Red XIII: Open the locked safe in the Shinra Mansion and defeat Loss Number. The lock combination is right 36, left 10, right 59, and right 97.
- Cid: Go to the cargo bay in the sunken Gelnika plane.
- Yuffie: Defeat Godo at the last floor of the Pagoda.
- Vincent: Go to Lucrecia's Cave on the second disc. You can ride the sub to a tunnel-like passage to get there, (North penninsula where Costa del Sol is) or ride a blue or green chocobo. Go there again on the third disc to retrieve the manual.
